M.Ryzhenkov and Ghanaian Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa held talks in a narrow and expanded format.
The interlocutors discussed a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation. Special attention was paid to preparations for the upcoming visit of Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama to Belarus. The parties thoroughly reviewed the substantive content of the visit and the package of international documents planned for signing. Among them are agreements on visa–free travel on diplomatic and official passports, on agricultural mechanization, on export credits, on the establishment of an Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, as well as a number of other documents.
The Ministers confirmed their intention to develop cooperation in the political sphere, agriculture and counter-terrorism. The importance of joint educational programs was noted.
During the talks, the organization of a business and investment forum in Minsk with the participation of representatives of Belarusian and Ghanaian businesses was also discussed.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ghana thanked the Belarusian side for the support of African countries, including for the humanitarian assistance provided to Mozambique in overcoming the natural disaster, and highly appreciated the cooperation of Belarus with Nigeria. He stressed that Ghana, being the "gateway to Africa," is ready to work as actively as possible with Minsk.
Special attention was paid to cooperation on international platforms. The parties agreed to support each other at the UN. M.Ryzhenkov assured that Belarus would vote in the UN General Assembly for the resolution on reparations for colonization initiated by the African Union, take other measures to promote and implement it, and support Ghana's candidacy to the UN elected bodies.
On the same day, a meeting was held with Ghanaian Minister of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare.
At the beginning of the conversation, Maxim Ryzhenkov wished his interlocutor a happy birthday. The parties discussed the expansion of economic cooperation and the implementation of projects in the field of agricultural mechanization and food security.
Belarus is interested in importing Ghanaian fruits, nuts, vegetables and cocoa beans, as well as in developing cooperation, taking into account Belarus' membership in the EAEU.
The Ghanaian side proposed to explore the possibility of establishing processing plants on its territory, in particular cocoa processing, which would allow it to enter the markets of the entire African continent. The Trade Minister stressed the importance of preparing a comprehensive package of bilateral agreements for the President's visit, including documents on avoidance of double taxation, investment protection and customs cooperation.
An agreement was reached to prepare a list of Ghanaian companies to participate in the business forum in Minsk.
