The Minsk ring road will open on November 7

05 November 2002

The reconstruction of the Minsk ring road is coming to an end. The decision concerning the road's reconstruction was passed by the Council of Ministers in 2000. Practically all road-construction organizations of Minsk and about 30 subcontractors are taking part in the construction works. Every day about three thousand people worked there. To construct the new road 3,7 million cubic meters of soil was moved and laid. Hundreds of thousands of asphalt concrete was used for reconstruction of the road. The length of the ring road is 56 kilometers. The cost of the construction works makes 130 billion rubles.

The Minsk ring road meets the European level now. For example, all cross roads with the main streets and city exits were made on different levels for safety. Overpasses and bridges were modernized and designed to up-to-date technologies. Some 19 surface and underground pedestrian crossings were built. The road has antidazzle signs for the route orientation. Specialists used noise-balancing barriers near residential areas. The road is equipped with an automated control system, which includes three weather stations, sensors for the traffic volume registration and a station for the trucks weighing. The road has six lanes - three in each direction.
