Summary of the Article by Mr.Nikolaj Packiewich, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to Azerbaijan, in the newspaper “Bakinskiy Rabochiy” (Azerbaijan), June 6, 2013

The article is devoted to the cooperation between the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Azerbaijan and presents the analysis of the present stage & retrospection of bilateral relations.

Azerbaijan places a high value on the relations with Belarus, both economic and political. Bilateral cooperation has been steadily developing in the economic, humanitarian and cultural sectors. Belarus is a friendly and brotherly country for Azerbaijan.

Both parties have a socially-oriented national economy, share similar approaches in the development of information and communication technologies. successful development of trade and economic interstate cooperation.

Since 2006 the non-oil trade turnover between Belarus and Azerbaijan rose by 6 times and in 2012 the annual turnover amounted to USD 250 million. Belarus’ main exports to Azerbaijan include tractors and trucks, dairy and confectionary, woodwork and timber, products for the building sector, medications, household appliances, petrochemical products. Belarus imports Azerbaijani agricultural products, bentonite, aluminum oxide, a number of other goods.

Cooperation between Belarus and Azerbaijan is not mere trade and economic partnership. The two countries are moving toward investment and innovation cooperation. Special focus in the article is made on the progress in aspects of cooperation in IT-sphere and education.

Belarus and Azerbaijan share a common historic links, and this is a good basis for humanitarian communications. The meaningful role in progress of intercultural dialogue between Belarus and Azerbaijan belongs to the Society of friendship and cooperation “Azerbaijan – Belarus”. This informal organization’s members are outstanding figures of a science, art, representatives of the Azerbaijani business circles.
