United Nations Development Programme
United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) was created in November 1965 and is the UN global development network which provides financial, technical and other assistance to developing countries and countries in transition. The UNDP goal also aims at capacity building.
The UNDP is funded entirely by voluntary contributions from UN Member States, UN specialised agencies, non-governmental organisations and private sector.
To accomplish the Sustainable Development Goals and encourage global development, UNDP focuses on poverty reduction, HIV/AIDS, democratic governance, energy and environment, social development, and crisis prevention and recovery, advancement of women.
Belarus has been working with UNDP since 1992 when Country Office was open and Country Programme Document for Belarus for 1992 – 1994 was adopted.
Further, from 2001 to 2005 and from 2002 to 2005 the cooperation, including the project collaboration, was focused on economic and social development, governance capacity building, human capital development, overcoming the Chernobyl catastrophe consequences, health care, poverty reduction, equal opportunities in development, industrial restructuring, military camps transfer, open anti-corruption policy.
In its activities UNDP adheres to a non-politised approach in solving existing problems and focuses on Belarus’ priorities and needs.
In 2020, the Fifth Country Programme Document for Belarus (2016 – 2020) was accomplished which has a budget of 82 mln. US dollars.
In September 2020, Executive Board of the United Nations Development Programme, the United Nations Population Fund and the United Nations Office for Project Services during its' second regular session approved a new Country Programme Document for Belarus for 2021 – 2025.
Its' priorities include the response to the COVID-19 pandemic and its' aftermath, Sustainable Development Goals achievement, economic development based on the principles of green and inclusive growth, implementation of climate change mitigation and adaptation measures, development of an effective digital ecosystem, fuller participation of vulnerable groups in socio-economic life.
