On June 18 – 21, 2013 the annual session of the UNICEF Executive Council takes place in New York. The Belarusian delegation takes part in the session as the observer-state.
During the discussion on the report of the UNICEF Executive Director on the implementation of the strategic plan for 2006-2013 the delegation appreciated the efforts of the Fund in providing assistance to member-states in reducing mortality of children aged up to 5 years, access to health services, elementary education, improvement in data accumulation and statistical data analysis.
The Belarusian delegation called UNICEF to continue activities in struggling against HIV/AIDS, bad habits among the youth. The attention of the Fund was drawn to the necessity of working out concerted mechanism to efficiently take into account the interests of middle-income countries for their sustainable development.
The Belarusian side expressed gratitude to the UNICEF for the participation in the Minsk regional conference “Prospects of Sustainable Development in Middle-Income Countries”. The Belarusian delegation underlined Belarus’ interest in cooperating with the UNICEF in responsible fatherhood, promotion of healthy lifestyle among the youngsters, rights protection of children with special needs.
