On the Adoption of the UN GA Resolution on Olympic Ideals

On November 6, 2013 General Assembly of the United Nations has adopted the resolution entitled “Sport for peace and development: building a peaceful and better world through sport and the Olympic ideal”.
The delegation of Belarus participated in elaboration of the resolution and co-sponsored it. The resolution stresses the important role of International Olympic Committee and the United Nations in implementing the Olympiñ Truce concept.
In a statement following the adoption of the resolution the delegation of Belarus has reiterated the importance of non-discriminatory approaches towards participation in the Olympic Games, special responsibility of the hosts of the Olympic Games for adherence to Olympic ideals and unacceptability of politicization of sport and Olympic Games.
