Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs I.Sekreta holds briefing on human rights issues

09 March 2026

On March 9, 2026 the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Igor Sekreta held a briefing for representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in the country on pressing issues on the international human rights agenda.

The Deputy Foreign Minister, based on the results of his participation in the high-level segment of the 61st session of the UN Human Rights Council on February 23-25, 2026, drew the attention of the briefing participants to the high conflict potential and provocative nature of human rights issues in international relations.

Particular attention was paid to the ongoing discussions on country-specific issues at the UN Human Rights Council, where politicization continues to grow and tendencies toward confrontation and bloc mentality are intensifying. A clear example of such negative manifestations is the groundless fabrication by Western countries of an accusatory "profile" of Belarus in the field of human rights at the UN Human Rights Council.

Foreign diplomats were presented with our country's consistent position on human rights issues, based on the conviction that human rights should be viewed primarily as a space for constructive engagement, rather than for political confrontation.

In this regard, Igor Sekreta reaffirmed Belarus' commitment to dialogue, trust-building, and the development of international cooperation in the field of human rights.
