On November 5, 2013 Belarusian delegation within the 68th session of the United Nations General Assembly took part in the discussion on the issue of elimination of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance.

Ms.Tatsiana Leshkova, representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, informed the participants of the event on the efforts made by the Belarusian government to ensure interethnic and interconfessional concord and to prevent racial discrimination and ethnic and confessional conflicts in the country.

Ms.Leshkova noted that in August 2013 Belarus had successfully presented in the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination the report on the fulfillment of its international obligations in this area. Efforts of Belarus to improve the high level of tolerance in the society, encourage cultural diversity, develop and preserve the culture of the national communities have been positively evaluated by the experts committee.

The representative of Belarus expressed concern about the spread in many parts of the world of neo-Nazis groups and similar extremist ideological movements and the attempts to reconsider the results of the World War II. Belarusian diplomat urged the United Nations and the UN Members to resolutely respond to the attempts to restore the Nazi ideology.
