Comment of the Press Service of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry on the Statements of Polish Representatives Related to Detention of A.Poczobut

In connection with some recent statements of Polish authorities it should be noted, first of all, that A.Poczobut is a citizen of Belarus, living and working in our country, and as every other Belarusian citizen he is in the legal environment, defined by the Belarusian legislation.

The vocabulary used by the official representatives of the Republic of Poland perplexes. They openly speak about exerting “pressure” on the Belarusian side in relation to the detention of A.Poczebut and call upon entire EU to do so.

According to the logic of the Polish side the fact that A.Poczobut calls himself a journalist, is of Polish nationality and in addition to this is “appointed” by Warsaw to the post of the chairman of the main council of the Polish union in Belarus, while in fact this post belongs to another person, all this makes A.Poczobut an “untouchable”.

In Belarus all citizens, regardless of their professional activities and nationality are equal before the law.

Instead of the efforts to exert pressure on the Belarusian system of justice the foreign initiators should recall the principle of supremacy of law, so often declared by our European partners, but in case of Belarus they try to substitute this principle by the political expedience.
