Belarusian Delegation Participates in 45th Session of the UN Commission on Population and Development

On April 23-27 the UN headquarters host the 45th session of the UN Commission on Population and Development (CPD). The topic of the session is “Adolescents and youth”.

Belarusian delegation at the meeting is headed by the counselor of the Humanitarian Cooperation Department of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Irina Velichko. The head of the Belarusian delegation delivered a speech during the discussion on the topic of the session. The participants were informed about the measures taken in Belarus to improve the demographic situation within the context of the youth policy. I.Velichko noted, that the government of Belarus makes active investment in education, health and creating the possibilities for youth on the labor market, contributing to the prosperity of future generations.

Belarusian representative has drawn the attention of the participants to the Belarusian initiative on promoting prosperity of future generations, based on combating social degradation of the youth, that hinders its development, and on support of the talented youth, which is an important potential for the successful development of the society. The statement highlighted the measures that are adopted at the national level within the framework of the implementation of this initiative. In particular, there is Council of the Special Fund of the President of the Republic of Belarus for social support of the gifted students; an early diagnostics is performed to detect health abnormalities with children and adolescents, including addictions, such as smoking, alcohol and drugs.

The session of the Commission will continue its work till April 27. At the end of the session the participants will adopt a final document that will reflect, as it is expected, the main elements of the Belarusian initiative on promoting the prosperity of future generations.
