Belarus elected to the ECOSOC
25 October 2011Belarus was elected as a member of the UN Economic and Social Council for 2012-2014.
ECOSOC is a principal organ of the UN, which is responsible for coordination of international economic and social issues, and developing social and economic policy guidelines for the UN Member States.
The last time Belarus was a member of this body in 2006-2009.
Election of Belarus to the ECOSOC is an evidence of recognition by the international community of the Belarusian experience in the area of social and economic development, and of the national efforts on raising standards of living in the country.
