Sixth Meeting of Joint Belarus-Iraq Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation Took Place in Minsk

On June 19-21 Minsk hosted the 6th meeting of the Joint Belarus-Iraq Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation.

Belarusian Side of the Commission was headed on the meeting by the Deputy Minister of Industry of the Republic of Belarus, Vitaliy Prima, the Iraqi Side was led by the Deputy Minister of Industry and Minerals of the Republic of Iraq, Munqith Abdul-Jabbar Jassim Albaker.

During the meeting the sides discussed the ways of developing bilateral trade and economic cooperation between the two states for the mid-term prospective.

As the outcome of the meeting the parties signed the Minutes containing the agreements of the sides in cooperation development in the areas of industry, agriculture, trade, electric power, architecture and construction, transports and communications, standardization and metrology, education, culture, health care, sports, investments, banking and finance.

Resumption of the Commission's activities after the 10-year interruption is in the interests of the two states. Foreign trade between the states in 2003 amounted to US$ 32.6 million. Restoration of the prewar level of trade and its diversification is the goal of the bilateral cooperation of the sides.

During the stay in Belarus the Iraqi delegation also visited MTZ, MAZ, Amcodor, Kozlov METP, and organized negotiations with the executives of these enterprises.
