Belarusian Delegation Participates in 21st session of the UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice

On April 23-27 Vienna host the 21st session of the UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ).

Belarusian delegation headed by the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Belarus to the international organizations in Vienna, Valery Voronetsky takes part in the work of the session.

The Commission will consider the issues of strategic operations management of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, implementation of the UN Convention against Transnational Organized Crime and its protocols, as well as world trends and new challenges in crime prevention and criminal justice, and the ways to solve them. Thematic debates on violence against migrants, migrant workers and their families will take place within the framework of the session.

An important agenda item within the fight against the human trafficking is an implementation report on the CCPCJ resolution 20/3 “Implementation of the Global Plan of Action to Combat Trafficking in Persons”, adopted on the initiative of the Republic of Belarus in 2011.

Within the discussions on this item the head of the Belarusian delegation made a statement on behalf of the Group of Friends, United against Human Trafficking. In his address the Belarusian representative emphasized the need to intensify the work on coordinating the efforts in combating human trafficking, i.a. by implementing the UN Global Plan of Action to Combat Trafficking in Persons, support of the Voluntary Trust Fund for Victims of Trafficking and preparation of the Global Report on Trafficking in Persons.
