On the Visit of the Minister of Foreign Affair of Belarus Mr.Vladimir Makei to Vietnam

On March 24 – 25, 2014 Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Mr.Vladimir Makei was on a visit to Vietnam.

On March 24, 2014 Mr.Vladimir Makei met with the President of Vietnam Mr.Truong Tan Sang.

During the meeting the parties positively assessed the dynamics of cooperation between the countries reached in recent years, marked the enhancement of the visits exchange at all levels, expressed confidence in the further expansion of contacts.

Mr.Truong Tan Sang marked that the development of cooperation with Belarus is one of the priority directions of the Vietnamese foreign policy. Vietnam remembers the invaluable support provided by Belarus in the years of struggling for independence and in the period of post-war economic rehabilitation of Vietnam.

The parties marked the necessity of expanding trade, economic and investment cooperation between Belarus and Vietnam. The President of Vietnam considers that the signing of the Agreement on free-trade zone between the countries-members of the Customs Union and Vietnam, as well as the implementation of major joint projects on the territory of the two countries will promote Belarus-Vietnam interaction.

Within the negotiations with the Prime-Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam, Mr.Phạm Bình Minh the sides discussed a wide range of issues of Belarus-Vietnam cooperation in the political, trade, economic, scientific, technical, humanitarian and other spheres.

The Belarusian and Vietnamese party considered the issues of the visits exchange organization at the high and higher level, interaction on the international arena, development of the legal framework, consular issues.

Within the negotiations of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Belarus and Vietnam the sides discussed trade and economic issues, analyzed the implementation of the intergovernmental agreements, including the realization of the Program of the Intergovernmental economic cooperation for 2013 – 2015, of a number of important joint project, the process of negotiations on the Agreement on the free trade zone between the countries of the Customs Union and Vietnam.

The parties also discussed the implementation of the mutually beneficial joint projects in different spheres, including in the sphere of automobile construction and telecommunications.

In what concerns humanitarian cooperation the sides discussed the organization of the Days of Belarusian culture in Vietnam in 2014 and the Days of Vietnamese culture in Belarus in 2015.

Following the results of the negotiations the Ministers signed Agreement on cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam, as well as Interaction Plan for 2014 – 2015.

In the presence of the Ministers the leadership of the Belarusian Potash Company signed the contract with the Vietnamese partners for the deliveries of Belarusian potash fertilizers.

On March 25, 2014 Mr.Vladimir Makei held negotiations with the leadership of the major Vietnamese corporations in the sphere of machine building and telecommunications. The parties discussed the implementation of joint investment projects.
