On Belarus’ Chairmanship in the Commonwealth of Independent States

On January 1, 2013 Belarus became the Chair of the Commonwealth of Independent States. The decision on Belarus Chairmanship was made on December 5, 2012 in Ashkhabad during the session of the CIS Council of Heads of States.


The top-priority tasks during Belarus’ chairmanship in the CIS are: further development of good-neighborly relations and mutually beneficial cooperation between the countries of the former Soviet Union, improvement in living standards and social welfare of the CIS member-states and getting positive integration experience.

Belarus will preside the CIS under the slogan “Integration for the benefit of the people: development of good-neighborly relations, environmental cooperation, access to green technology, cultural dialogue development.

In 2013 Belarus will preside in the CIS Council of Heads of States, CIS Council of Heads of Governments, CIS Foreign Ministers Council, Economic Council, the Council of Permanent and Plenipotentiary Representatives, as well as Economic Committee on Economic Affairs of the CIS Economic Council.
