On the activities of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus within the 66th Session of UN General Assembly

The head of the Belarusian delegation at the 66th Session of UN General Assembly, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus Sergei Martynov held a number of events on September 26.

An informal meeting of the foreign ministers of the CSTO member states took place under the presidency of Belarus. The delegations discussed the issues of cooperation between the parties within the Organization, as well as a number of questions related to harmonizing the positions of CSTO member-states on the agenda items of the UN General Assembly 66th session.

The participants of the meeting have approved the text of the Declaration by the CSTO member states on international security and disarmament at the First Committee of the 66th Session of the UN General Assembly. This Declaration was initiated by the Belarusian side.

S.Martynov in the capacity of coordinator held the second annual meeting of the Group of Friends united in the fight against human trafficking. The Group of Friends was created in 2010 on the initiative of Belarus. Currently the Group represents all regions of the world and has 21 member states.

During the meeting the delegations exchanged views on further activities of the Group of Friends, aimed at implementing the Global Plan of Action to Combat Trafficking in Persons, adopted by the UN General Assembly in 2010 on the initiative of Belarus. The participants of the meeting have adopted a declaration which will be circulated as an official document of the UN General Assembly.

Head of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry also held bilateral meetings with the chairman of the 66th UN General Assembly, Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser, the CSTO Secretary General Nikolai Bordyuzha, the heads of national delegations — the Foreign Ministers of Bhutan, Laos, Myanmar, Nicaragua, Pakistan, Ukraine, as well as representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Sudan.
