On the Participation of Belarus’ Delegation in the Discussion of the UN Operational Activities for Development

On October 14, 2013 the delegation of Belarus within the framework of the Second Committee (economic and financial issues) of the UN General Assembly participated in the discussion of the UN operational activities for development.

Deputy Permanent Representative of the Republic of Belarus to the United Nations Mr.Evgeny Lazarev marked the importance of full implementation by Member States of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) their international commitments to financing development. It was noted that the argument of decrease of the assistance for development due to the unfavorable global economic and financial situation is incorrect and unacceptable. Belarus stressed that such reason, for example, does not apply in respect of the obligations in good governance and mobilizing domestic financial resources undertaken by developing countries.

At the same time Mr Lazarev proposed to UN operational agencies and funds to develop an integrated approach to cooperation with middle-income countries, including Belarus, which would provide the use of their advanced expertise to the developing and least developed countries.
