On July 25, 2013 Mr.Evaldas Ignatavicius, Ambassador of Lithuania to Belarus, was invited into the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus. At the meeting the Belarusian side expressed concern over the unconstructive approach of the Lithuanian side to Belarus’ proposal to cooperate within the fulfillment of Espoo Convention due to the construction of Belarus nuclear power station.

During the meeting with the Lithuanian diplomat Ms.Alena Kupchyna, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, marked that the Belarusian side is perplexed by Lithuania’s response to the invitation for Lithuanian community to take part in public consultations on the issues of nuclear power plant in Ostrovets construction, posted on the website of the Belarusian Embassy in Lithuania.

The Belarusian side believes that the invitation follows the spirit of the Espoo Convention and regrets the ungrounded statements made by the Lithuanian side in this connection.

The ignoring of our proposals by the Lithuania side, as well as the attempts to by all means drag out the negotiations on the construction of the Belarusian nuclear power station do not conform with the spirit of good-neighborly relations. Belarus calls upon Lithuania to get into a constructive dialogue.
