On the Interactive Dialogue with the UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Expression

On June 3, 2013 within the participation in the 23th session of the UN Human Rights Council the Belarusian delegation took part in the interactive dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Expression. In his speech Mr.Evgeny Lazarev, Deputy Head of the Department for Multilateral Diplomacy of MFA of Belarus, marked that the Special Rapporteur drew attention to the situation with human rights in Western countries, in particular, the right for personal correspondence due to the illegal interference with the private correspondence of citizens.

The Belarusian delegation asked the Special Rapporteur to comment on the illegal telephone tapping of journalists of the biggest US information agency “Associated Press”.

Belarus also drew attention to the resonant episode which comes under cognizance of the Rapporteur, in particular on the infringement of the right for protection against war propaganda, race discrimination and neonatsism that have recently taken place in Germany, Poland, Hungary, Denmark, Canada, Romania, Slovakia, France, Estonia. The Belarusian delegation brought up the issue of the registration of the Group Martijn in the Netherlands that promotes pedophilia under cover of freedom of expression rights protection.
