The UN Conference of Arms Trade Treaty opens in New York

On July 3–27, 2012 the United Nations Conference of Arms Trade Treaty takes place in the UN Headquarters in New York.
 
The Belarusian delegation led by Aide to the President Valentin Rybakov participates in the Conference.
 
Belarus expects the forum to adopt a document which will help to improve international standards regarding the transfer of conventional arms.
 
When opening the Conference the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon stressed the importance of the process of preparing the Arms Trade Treaty that started in 2006.
 
The UN Secretary General noted that the international community is watching closely the debates in New York expecting concrete results from the initiative.
 
At the first meeting of Conference Counselor of the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Belarus to the United Nations  Nikolay Ovsyanko was elected Vice-Chairman of the Conference.
