Belarusian delegation participates in the 55th session of the IAEA General Conference

The 55th session of the International Atomic Energy Agency General Conference takes place at the headquarters of the IAEA in Vienna on September 19-23.
Belarusian delegation headed by the Permanent Representative of Belarus to the international organizations in Vienna Alexander Sychev participates in the work of the Conference.
Speech of the Head of the Belarusian delegation at the session was devoted to our country's position on key aspects of the Agency's activities.
Particular attention was paid to the importance of the universalization and further improvement of the international legal instruments in the nuclear field, especially the Convention on Nuclear Safety and the Convention on Early Notification of a Nuclear Accident.
The Belarusian side has supported the steps taken by the Russian Federation and the European Union in carrying out comprehensive assessments of risks and safety of nuclear power plants.
Alexander Sychev informed that Belarus joins the European program of stress tests for nuclear power stations of the EU neighboring states. Conclusions and lessons to be derived within the framework of that program will be used to ensure high security level of the first Belarusian nuclear power plant.
The participants of the Conference were informed in detail about the preparations for the construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant. The fruitful cooperation with the Agency on a whole range of issues related to the launch of the national nuclear energy program was noted.
It is essential that this work is carried out consistently and in full compliance with all international commitments with extensive involvement of the expertise of the IAEA and the States with extensive experience in the nuclear field.
During the session the Belarusian delegation also discussed in detail with the leadership of the IAEA's the technical cooperation program aimed at development of nuclear energy infrastructure in Belarus.
