Minister Martynov participates at CSTO Council of Foreign Ministers meeting

On April 6, 2012 Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Sergei Martynov participated in the Meeting of the CSTO Council of Foreign Ministers.

The CSTO Foreign Ministers adopted a decision on the draft agenda of the jubilee session of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the signing of the Collective Security Treaty and the 10th anniversary of the Collective Security Treaty Organization.
 
The Foreign Ministers assessed the escalation of political situation in the Middle East, Asia and North Africa. Ministers considered the issue of U.S. missile defense deployment in Europe as well as the problem of responding to challenges and threats emanating from Afghanistan.
 
The CSTO Foreign Ministers discussed the issues related to strengthening coordination on the key issues of international security, including more active interaction at the level of Permanent Representatives to the international organizations.
 
The CSTO Foreign Ministers adopted the Declaration of establishing cooperation between the CSTO and the NATO, which would stimulate cooperation between the two organizations in specific areas of international security.
 
The CSTO Foreign Ministers adopted a decision on strengthening cooperation with the OSCE governing structures.
 
In light of the earlier initiative of Belarus, Sergei Martynov informed the partners about the progress in establishing relationship between the CSTO and the UN’s peacekeeping activities, including preparations for the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the CSTO and the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations.
