On the Participation of the Belarusian Delegation in the Debate on Developing Cooperation with Middle-Income Countries

On October 23, 2013 within the framework of the UN General Assembly’s Second Committee (economic and financial issues) the delegation of Belarus took part in the debate on developing cooperation with middle-income countries.

Belarus, which belongs to the group of such states, has been active in promoting interests and advocating needs of this category of countries in the context of the UN development activities.

During the discussion Mr.Vadim Pisarevich, Head of Global Policy and Humanitarian Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, drew attention to the need to develop a common and consistent UN system approach to the collaboration with middle-income countries that need assistance for development in the context of long-term consequences of the global economic and financial crisis.

As a step towards addressing this issue the representative of Belarus invited Member States to consider drafting a comprehensive UN Plan of Action on cooperation with middle-income countries.
