On the publication of the International Telecommunications Union

International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has issued a report “Measuring the Information Society 2011”.

The document states that the Republic of Belarus is currently ranked 52nd in the world index of information and communication technologies (IDI — ICT Development Index).

IDI is a composite index that includes 11 indicators, covering access to ICTs, the use of ICT and ICT skills.

In the CIS space Belarus is second only to Russia, and on an international scale is ahead in terms of this indicator of such states as Argentina, Brazil, India, China, Mexico.

In the recent years, Belarus has significantly strengthened its positions: In 2008 our country was at the 58th place, while the absolute value of the IDI index in this period rose from 3.93 to 5.01.

In this regard, Belarus is listed in the category of the Top 10 Most Dynamic Countries.

The research placed the Republic of Belarus at the 56th place in the world on the IPB — ICT Price Basket.

This indicator measures price availability to the public of the fixed and mobile telephony, fixed broadband Internet access (country with the most affordable ICT services are on the list).

On affordability of communication services Belarus is ahead of some EU member states (Bulgaria, Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Republic) and some other important players in the ICT field in the world — Argentina, Brazil, India, China and Mexico.

In one of the components of the “basket of services” — Fixed-Telephone Sub-Basket — Belarus is traditionally in the top ten states with the most affordable rates.
