On the Presentation of the Second Report of the Nuclear Threat Initiative

On January 24, 2014 the presentation of the second report of the Nuclear Threat Initiative (USA) on nuclear materials security index took place in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The presentation was made by the Vice-President of the fund Nuclear Threat Initiative for the nuclear material security Mr.Page Stoutland and Senior Advisor for Russia and New Independent States of the Program for nuclear materials security, Director of the representative office of the fund Mr.Robert Berls.

Belarus occupied the 9^th place in the report and improved its position in the ranking by 7 points if compared to 2012.

Following the results of the presentation the parties discussed the report and fund’s initiatives on cooperation with Belarus in the sphere of nuclear materials security with the participation of the representatives of MFA, State Border Committee, States Customs Committee, National Academy of Sciences, Ministry for Emergency Situations and other government agencies.

Later on the same day Mr.Page Stoutland and Mr.Robert Berls met with First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Mr.Alexander Mikhnevich.

The representatives of the American Fund visited State Border Committee and Ministry for Emergency Situations of Belarus, were informed on the activities carried out by Belarus to provide nuclear non-proliferation, security and physical security of the nuclear materials, combating nuclear terrorism and illegal trafficking of radioactive materials.
