Statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus

Amid the recent U.S. threats to launch a missile attack on the governmental and military targets in the Syrian Arab Republic, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus declares its support to any international efforts that could prevent the development of a new conflict in the Middle East.

We therefore welcome the initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation to put Syria’s chemical weapons under international control.

We hope that the acceptance by the Syrian government of Russia’s proposals will enable the United States to forego any military intervention not sanctioned by the United Nations and will allow to avoid further victims among Syrian citizens.

The Republic of Belarus is convinced that the internal conflict in Syria could be solved through negotiation only and calls on the United Nations and all the states concerned to contribute to the peaceful settlement without the use of military force.
