On December 11, 2013 Mr. Valentin Rybakov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, during his working visit to New York took part in the discussion on the issues of middle-income countries held at the UN headquarters.

Mr. Valentin Rybakov drew the participants' attention to the fact that Belarus has consistently advocated a higher degree of coordination of the United Nations in relation to middle-income countries to which Belarus also belongs. This issue, in particular, was deliberated during the regional conference in Minsk in May 2013. In the view of Belarus, given the numerous sustainable development challenges faced by middle-income countries, the UN should adopt a consistent and comprehensive approach to the interaction with these states.

In his speech, Mr. Valentin Rybakov also underlined that the topic of middle-income countries should be adequately reflected in new United Nations sustainable development agenda, which is expected to be approved in 2015. Discussions on the new global development agenda are held, inter alia, within a special working group on the new sustainable development goals, the Republic of Belarus being one of the members of this group. The current session of this group takes place these days in New York.
