Belarus Delegation Took Part in the Session of the 2nd Committee of the UN General Assembly in New York

On November 12, 2012 the Belarus delegation took part in the 2nd Committee meeting at the 67th session of the UN General Assembly in New York and made a statement on the agenda item “Information and communication technologies for development".
 
Mrs. Oksana Melnikovich, Second Secretary of the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Belarus to the UN noted an important role of information and communication technologies (ICT) in creating a new social and economic infrastructure for sustainable economic development by means of improving information exchange process.
 
The Belarusian side underlined that the UN should continue to render consultative and technical assistance to the Member States in creating  electronic governments and exchanging technological developments.
 
The participants were informed of the measures taken to develop the information society in Belarus. It was noted that our country expects to improve its position in the ratings of the International Telecommunication Union significantly.
 
Mrs.Oksana Melnikovich underlined that it’s important to develop international legal environment to protect Internet users from online piracy and prevent the use of ICT for terrorist purposes.
