On the First Preparatory Meeting of the 22nd OSCE Economic Forum

On January 27 – 28, 2014 the first preparatory meeting of the 22nd Economic and Environmental OSCE forum “Responding to environmental challenges with a view to promoting cooperation and security in the OSCE area” takes place in Vienna.

Within the forum the parties consider disaster management, including measures to prevent and timely response to natural disasters and disaster control. The representatives of the Ministry for Emergency Situations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Permanent Delegation of Belarus to OSCE take part in the meeting.

In his statement the Permanent Representative of Belarus to OSCE Mr.Valeriy Voronetsky marked the importance of the OSCE economic and environmental dimension as the format for the development of dialogue and cooperation between countries-members in the topical economic and environmental security issues. Mr.Valeriy Voronetsky underlined that the problems of socio-economic development and environment protection, caused by natural and technological disasters immediately affect each person, his or her quality of life and wellbeing and must be in the centre of OSCE attention.

Within the meeting the Head of the Department of the State system of prevention and liquidation of emergencies and civil protection of the Ministry for Emergency Situations Mr.Leonid Dedul presented the experience of Belarus in preventing disasters, responding to them and eliminating the consequences.
