The 67th UN General Assembly begins in New York

On September 18, 2012 67th session of the United Nations General Assembly opened in the UN New York headquarters.
In his opening address the Chair of the UN General Assembly Vuk Yeremich highlighted the peaceful resolution of international disputes as a central topic in the work of the Assembly. He underlined the importance of strengthening interaction between the UN GA and other main UN bodies, including the Security Council, as well as organizations and specialized agencies of the UN.
Worth mentioning the statement of V.Yeremich on the preference of interaction, not confrontation in the work of the General Assembly and UN Human Rights Council in promotion and protection of human rights.
Priority of combating trade in humans, especially women and girls on the agenda of the GA UN Chair corresponds to the interests of Belarus. It was noted that the General Assembly will assess the implementation of the Global Plan of Action to Combat Trafficking in Persons, adopted by the General Assembly in 2010.
General discussion wth participation of the heads of states, governments and Foreign Ministries, traditional for this UN body, will take place from September 25 to October 1.
Belarusian delegation headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Vladimir Makei will participate in the general discussion of the 67th GA UN session after September 27.
The Republic of Belarus as a full member of the UN participates in UN GA session and in general discussion which allows the possibility to make a substantive statement on the most important issues of the current state and the trends of international relations before the widest audience of the Organization's member states.
A number of bilateral meetings with the ministers of foreign affairs of the foreign stats are scheduled to discuss the issues of developing bilateral relations.
