On the Participation in the 47th Session of the UN Commission on Population and Development

At the United Nations headquarters in New York from 7 to 11 April 2014 the 47th session of the UN Commission on Population and Development (CPD) is being held. The delegation of the Republic of Belarus takes part in the session as an observer.

The main theme of the CPD session is to discuss the progress on implementation of the Plan of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD).

In her statement during the general debate, the representative of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Republic of Belarus Ms. Svetlana Belash informed the participants on the national experiences of the Plan of Action of ICPD implementation, as well as focused on specific aspects of the achievements of the National Programme of Demographic Security of the Republic of Belarus for 2011-2015.

Belarus achievements in stabilization of demographic situation in recent years have been the results of socially-oriented state policies on economic and social support for youth and older people, families with children.

The representative of Belarus stated the necessity for comprehensive support of the traditional family on national and international levels, because sustainable development and the future of society depend largely on the family.

The delegate of Belarus urged the international community to promote responsible parenthood among young people, strengthening family values and enhance the prestige of the family in society.
