On the Participation of Belarus’ Delegation in the Session of the UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS Executive Board

On June 10, 2013 during the participation in the annual session of the joint Executive Board of the UNDP, UN Population Fund and United Nations Office for Project Services, the delegation took part in the discussion of the annual report of the UNDP Administrator on the results of the UNDP activity in 2012 and the draft strategic UNDP plan for 2014-2017.

In his speech Mr.Yuri Ambrazevich, Head of the Directorate for Multilateral Diplomacy, marked the leading role of the UNDP in achieving Millennium development goals, one of which is eradication of poverty.

In this context the Belarusian diplomat paid attention to the fact that more then 70 per cent of poor people live in the meddle-income countries. It means that the UNDP needs to work out new coordinated and enhanced mechanisms, including with other funds and UN  agencies, to interact with the abovementioned countries to help them achieve sustainable development. Strengthening cooperation between UN institutions with the leading role of the UNDP can turn into one of the efficient answers to development challenges.

Mr.Yuri Ambrazevich marked the necessity of developing UNDP project activities by means of providing access to advanced technology, and in the sphere of trafficking in persons which is directly related to the main directions of the UNDP activities.

The Belarusian representative called to pay attention to such priorities of Belarus as the implementation of better examples of work in the sphere of economic development, effective methods of public administration, including at the regional level.The Belarusian delegation expressed gratitude to the UNDP for constructive cooperation and active position.
