On Belarus’ Participates in the Session of the UN Working Group on Sustainable Development Goals

Session of the United Nations working group on sustainable development goals takes place from 3 to 7 February 2014 at the UN Headquarters in New York. Belarus is one of the members of this group.

At the meeting of the group Mr.Yury Ambrazevich, Director-General for Multilateral Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, made a joint statement on behalf of the constituence of Belarus and Serbia in the group.

In his address Mr Ambrazevich stressed the importance of the issues addressed during the current session of the group, namely biodiversity, including preservation of forests, conflict prevention and rule of law, social and gender equality, including the importance of family as the basic social structure. The Belarusian representative noted the significance of reflecting these topics in the development of new sustainable development goals.

Established in 2013, the group on sustainable development goals is supposed to work out proposals for a new UN sustainable development agenda. It is expected that the basis of this agenda will be formed by a number of goals – the future global and universal reference points in the sphere of economic, social and environmental development to be approved at the world summit in 2015.
