09 July 2009

Question: What is the Foreign Ministry reaction to the current events in Urumqi in Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of the People’s Republic of China?

Response: We carefully watch the events in this region. We took with regret the reports about riots there that entailed human losses and considerable damage. We note that the Chinese authorities undertake needed measures to contain and discontinue this conflict.

We express condolences to relatives and next of kin to those perished, as well as our sympathy with those who suffered due to the unrest.

We confirm that the Republic of Belarus considers the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region as an integral part of China and believe that events happening there are China’s internal affair. We hope that the legal measures taken by the Chinese authorities to break off the conflict will allow to normalize situation in the region in the near future.
