Foreign Minister of Belarus Sergei Martynov Participates in UN Conference on Sustainable Development

On June 20-22, 2012, Rio de Janeiro, Federative Republic of Brazil, hosts the UN Conference on Sustainable Development “Rio+20”.

Belarusian delegation led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Martynov participates in the Conference.

The agenda of “Rio+20” includes discussions of the issues, related to the green economy in the context of sustainable development, and to the policies, set to ensure sustainable development.

During the Conference S.Martynov will deliver a speech, where the Minister will present principally important for our country approaches to establishing new international agenda with regard to sustainable development. These approaches provide for inadmissibility of using the instruments of discrimination and coercion in the process of implementing green economy concept, the freedom in choosing ways for achieving sustainable development, increasing availability of energy technologies, and elaboration of sustainable development goals.

It is expected that during the “Rio+20” the participants will adopt long-term decisions, aimed at ensuring integrated and weighted combination of economic growth and solution of social problems and environment protection.

S.Martynov will also have meetings with the heads of delegations of the participating states to discuss the prospects and the current state of bilateral trade, economic and political cooperation.
