On the Participation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Mr.Vladimir Makei in the Ceremony in Memory of the Minsk Ghetto Victims

On October 21, 2013 Mr.Vladimir Makei, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, took part in the ceremony of laying wreath at the memorial complex “Yama” dedicated to the 70th anniversary of Minsk ghetto elimination.

Together with the representatives of public organizations and diplomatic missions, as well as numerous foreign guests, the Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus held a moment of silence in memory of those who suffered martyrdom, killed by the fascists.

“70 years ago the fascists killed the remaining prisoners in the Minsk ghetto. This is a very regrettable date for Belarus. It tells us about the terrible ordeal that our people came through during the years of Great Patriotic War. It reminds us about that we must preserve the truth and memories of the past” – Mr.Vladimir Makei marked during the ceremony.

In his speech the Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus pointed out that Belarus does a lot to preserve the memory of the Holocaust victims, any manifestation of antisemitism is excluded, the study of the Jewish culture and language is encouraged, historically significant for the Jewish nation synagogues and yeshivas are being reconstructed.

After his speech Mr.Vladimir Makei laid a stone delivered from the suburbs of Jerusalem to the monument in the memory of the ghetto victims.
