Belarus Participates in 4th Session of General Assembly of States Parties to Convention for Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage

Fourth session of the General Assembly of the States Parties to the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage opened at UNESCO headquarters in Paris on Friday, June 08, 2012.

The official delegation of Belarus headed by the Permanent Representative of Belarus to UNESCO Aleksandr Pavlovsky takes part in the session.

During the General Assembly the participants will revise the Operational Directives for the implementation of the Convention. Proposed amendments and addenda are related to the examination procedure of applications for inclusion in the lists of intangible heritage. Currently the Belarusian side prepares for inclusion in the list the unique and distinctive tradition of fulling woolen hats and felt-boots “Shapovalstvo” and special jargon of this trade “Katrushnitsky lemezen”.

The participants of the session will discuss the activities report of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage, will consider the use of the resources of the Intangible Cultural Heritage Fund and will renew the list of non-governmental organizations act in an advisory capacity to the Intergovernmental Committee.

Election of the members of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage will take place during the session as well.
