On the Visit of Mr.Vladimir Makei, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, to Azerbaijan

On June 9 – 11, 2013 Mr.Vladimir Makei, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, is on a working visit to Azerbaijan.

On June 9 the Minister visited the diplomatic complex being constructed in Baku.

On June 10 Mr.Vladimir Makei met with Mr.Ilham Aliyev, President of Azerbaijan. The Minister passed along the message of Mr.Alexander Lukashenko to the Head of Azerbaijan on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Belarus-Azerbaijan diplomatic relations establishment (June 11, 2013).

During the meeting the parties discussed the issues on the bilateral agenda. The sides marked that the relations of the two countries have potential for the further development. Special attention was paid to the inventory of joint economic projects implemented in Belarus and Azerbaijan. The parties agreed to prepare new joint projects in the sphere of industrial production by the time Belarus’ President visits Azerbaijan. Mr.Ilham Aliyev underlined that Belarus and Azerbaijan have friendly relations.

Mr.Vladimir Makei also met with Mr.Elmar Mammadyarov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan. The Heads of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs marked the positive experience of interaction between the two ministries, and agreed to continue providing mutual support of the initiatives and candidates within international organizations.The sides discussed interaction on the international arena and the development of cooperation in different spheres.

Later on the same day Mr.Vladimir Makei visited Baku Slavic University and the Center of Belarusian Culture, where he held a discussion with the representatives of the friendship society “Azerbaijan – Belarus” that includes famous scientists, cultural figures, and businesspersons. During the visit to the Center the presentation of the miniature addition “Zhaleika” by Yanka Kupala released in Baku took place. The Minister left notes in the distinguished visitors’ book in the Baku Slavic University and the Center of Belarusian Culture and Language.

On June 11 Mr.Vladimir Makei is planning to take part in the Forum dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Belarus-Azerbaijan diplomatic relations establishment, and hold a meeting with the businessmen of Azerbaijan.
