Press Secretary Andrei Savinykh replies to the question concerning cancellation of the Belarusian delegation visit to the U.S.
22 September 2011Radio Liberty: It was announced previously that the head of the National Bank Nadezhda Ermakova is to fly to Washington. Today we learned that the visit did not take place. Informal conversations appear, suggesting that she was denied a U.S. visa. Does the Foreign Ministry at this point know something about this story?
A.Savinykh: The visa was granted, but with an unacceptable delay. This situation can be seen as a clear violation by the American side of its international obligations.
United States of America at the time pledged to provide free access to participate in the activities of international organizations located on their territory.
Such tardiness in issuing a visa is an additional barrier that creates unnecessary obstacles to the successful work of Belarus within the IMF.
