The Embassy of the Republic of Belarus opens in Finland

On February 22, 2012 the Embassy of the Republic of Belarus in the Republic of Finland was officially opened in Helsinki. A solemn opening ceremony was dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Belarus and Finland.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Guryanov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the Republic of Lithuania and concurrently to the Republic of Finland Vladimir Drazhin and Director of the Department for Russia and Eastern Europe of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland Nina Vaskunlahti solemnly opened the Belarusian diplomatic mission. First visas were issued to a number of businessmen and representatives of NGOs, which cooperate with Belarus on long-term basis.

In his address during the event, Belarusian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Guryanov underlined the constructivism, mutual interest and the practical content of the Belarusian-Finnish relations. The Belarusian diplomat stressed that the two countries have great prospects for expanding bilateral cooperation in the areas of economy, education, science and culture, in sport and tourism.

Ambassador Vladimir Drazhin noted that the opening of the Embassy will contribute to the development of the Belarusian-Finnish political dialogue, to the strengthening of inter-agency ties. He also pointed at the increasing bilateral economic cooperation and investments.

Finland’s Secretary of State Pertti Torstila, also present at the ceremony, noted that Finland is interested in the development of all aspects of the Belarusian-Finnish relations and that the opening of the Belarusian Embassy in Finland demonstrates the positive dynamics of contacts between our countries.
