On October 18, 2013 Mrs.Irina Velichko, Deputy Director for Global Policy and Humanitarian Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, took part in the open debate of the UN Security Council pertaining to the role of women and the rule of law to ensure justice in conflict and post-conflict situations.

Mrs.Irina Velichko stated that Belarus condemns all forms of violence including in armed conflict situations, especially to the most vulnerable social groups, in particular women and children. Mrs.I.Velichko noted that the inevitability of punishment of perpetrators and due investigation of all cases of sexual violence in conflict are the main prerequisite of the eradication of violence as a tool of war.

The Belarusian diplomat urged Member States, international organizations and civil society to form a real partnership based on the concerted approaches, respect of the views of each partner and joint efforts of countries.

According to the representative of Belarus, the real, not paper partnership can only guarantee effective implementation of the relevant Security Council resolutions on the promotion and protection of rights of women in armed conflict situations.
