On the Participation of Belarus’ Delegation in the Annual Session of the UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS Executive Board

The Belarusian delegation took part in the UNFPA Executive Director discussion on the implementation of the strategic plan for 2008-2013 during the annual session of the Joint Executive Board of the United Nations Development Programme, United Nations Fund for Population and United Nations Office for Project Services.

The representative of the Belarusian delegation Ms.Oksana Melnikovich positively assessed the efforts of the fund in providing assistance to the countries, including Belarus, in achieving the Millennium Development Goal – maternal mortality decrease.

The Belarusian diplomat drew attention to the necessity of taking steps in the sphere of birth rate stimulation and family planning in the countries with the decreased population growth. Ms.Oksana Melnikovich called for the development of cooperation with Belarus in the sphere of demographic security.

The Belarusian delegation called the UNFPA to intensify cooperation with the governments of the countries-members of the United Nations on youth, first of all, on bad habits eradication and HIV/AIDS prevention, and expressed gratitude for participation in Minsk regional conference “Prospects of Sustainable Development of the Middle-Income Countries”.
