The Heads of Diplomatic Missions Accredited in Belarus Visit Grodno Region

On June 21-22, 2013 at the invitation of Mr.Vladimir Makei, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, the Heads of the Diplomatic Missions accredited in Belarus with their spouses visited Grodno Region.

The organization of such trips is a widely spread world practice that allows foreign diplomats to get familiar with the traditions, historical and cultural heritage, regional features, color and attractions of the host country.

On June 21 the Heads of the Diplomatic Missions went for a trip to Grodno. During the excursion the diplomats visited St.Francis Cathedral, where they listened to organ music, Kalozha Church, Grodno State Museum of the History of Religion.

The acquaintance with Grodno Region continued in the agro-touristic complex “Karobchytsy” where the diplomats visited historical and cultural complex “Grodno Fortress – Guerilla Camp” created at the battleground of the First World War.

On June 22 on the anniversary of Great Patriotic War the leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Heads of the Diplomatic Missions laid flowers to the monument to the fascist victims in Naumovichi in Grodno district at the place of mass executions in1941-1943.

The trip ended with the visit to Augustov Canal and the excursion on a motor ship along the canal. Augustow Canal is included into the preliminary UNESCO World Heritage list. Belarusian and Polish experts work on the joint report preparation to present Augustow Canal to the Committee on World Heritage to get the status of the World Heritage Site.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus is intended to continue the practice of organizing the trips of the Heads of Diplomatic Missions to get familiar with the regions of our country.
