04-12-2013

On December 2—6, 2013 the 15th Session of the UNIDO General Conference is taking place in Lima, Peru. The Belarusian side is represented by Charge d'Affaires ad interim of the Republic of Belarus to Argentina, Mr.Ivan Savunov.

The highest governing body of UNIDO, which holds sessions biennially, considers a wide range of issues regarding the Organisation’s strategic management and approves its budget and programme of activities. The current Conference is taking place under the main motto “UNIDO: Towards partnerships for a new industrial revolution for inclusive and sustainable growth.”

An important event within the Session of the UNIDO General Conference was the adoption of the Lima Declaration—a document that expresses the political commitment of the Member States to facilitate the achievement of inclusive and sustainable industrial development as the basis for securing steady economic growth. With the participation of the Belarusian side, the Declaration reflected the issues that meet our country’s national interests, namely, the development of cooperation with middle-income countries, as well as the acknowledgement of the diversity of ways for progressive development as a value of humankind.

The Republic of Belarus has co-sponsored draft resolutions submitted for consideration to the General Conference, which deal with the development of middle-income countries, the reinforcement of partnership, in particular, in the framework of such specialized UNIDO initiatives as the “Green Bridge” and the “Green Industry Platform”, alongside UNIDO’s role in the development of the post-2015 development agenda. The representative from the Republic of Belarus is to deliver an address during the general debate of the Session.
