On the Participation of Belarus’ Delegation in the UNECE Regional Conference

On July 1 – 2, 2013 a high-level Regional Conference “Enabling choices: Population Priorities for the 21st Century” takes place in Geneva. The Conference is organized by the UN Economic Commission for Europe in cooperation with the UN Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA).

The Belarusian delegation headed by Mr. Alexander Rumak, Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Protection, takes part in the Conference.

During his speech at the high level plenary session Mr.Alexander Rumak presented information on the achievements of Belarus in the implementation of the
Cairo International Conference on Population and Development Plan of Action, as well as on the main priorities of Belarus' social policy in the field of demographic security, reproductive health and women's rights.

Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Protection of Belarus noted the prescheduled achievement of the Millennium Development Goals related to the eradication of extreme poverty and hunger, reduction of child and maternal mortality, progress in achieving gender equality.
 
Giving assessment to the Cairo International Conference Plan of Action implementation results the Belarusian delegation proposed to strengthen regional cooperation in developing mechanism of exchanging experience, using best practices in the implementation of technical assistance projects.

Mr.Alexander Rumak held a meeting with the Regional Director of UNFPA for Eastern Europe and Central Asia Mr.Werner Haug within the Conference.
