Belarusian delegation continues to participate in the discussion by the United Nations General Assembly of matters of the world social and economic development. During the debate on the subject of macroeconomic policy issues on 24 October 2013 Mr.Vadim Pisarevich, Head of Global Policy and Humanitarian Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, presented the position of Belarus on the issues of interdependence of international trade, financial system and sustainable development.

Belarusian diplomat stressed the importance of ensuring the comprehensive character of the international trade system in the interest of all countries. Such a system should be inclusive, transparent, rules-based and non-discriminatory. Effective global governance can only be achieved if the decisions on key economic and financial issues are taken by all states without exception. In the view of the Belarusian side, the most important global economic decisions must be taken at the UN and its Economic and Social Council.

The representative of the Foreign Ministry underlined the unacceptability of unilateral economic and trade sanctions imposed by some countries in violation of the UN Charter. Belarus believes that the United Nations should more actively oppose such practices and render necessary assistance to countries affected by unfair sanctions.
