Belarusian Delegation takes part in 36th Session of UNESCO General Conference

On October, 25 the 36th session of the UNESCO General Conference opened at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris. The delegation of the Republic of Belarus headed by the Ambassador-at-Large, Chairman of the National Commission of the Republic of Belarus for UNESCO Vladimir Schastny participates in its work.

On October, 28 Vladimir Schastny addressed the Conference within the main discussion. In his speech he outlined the position of the Republic of Belarus on the UNESCO reform that is carried out by the Director-General, noted the importance of the UNESCO presence in the field, in particular, the positive contribution of the UNESCO Office in Moscow to the development of cooperation between Belarus and this organization.

V.Schastny outlined priorities of the Republic of Belarus in the UNESCO program activities, among which were universal access to inclusive quality education, including the development of vocational education; the expansion of scientific cooperation; encouragement of efforts to preserve cultural heritage; development of the programs Memory of the World and World Digital Library, as well as the development of the Strategy of open access to scientific information.

The 36th session of the UNESCO General Conference will last until November 10. The delegation of the Republic of Belarus will continue its work in the thematic committees of the session in order to include national priority areas in the program activities of the UNESCO.
