Belarus Delegation Took Part in the Session of the 4th Committee of the UN General Assembly

On November 14, 2012 the Belarus delegation took part in the 4th Committee of the UN General Assembly on the agenda item “The Effect of Atomic Radiation”.


Mr.Denis Zdorov, Counsellor of the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Belarus to the UN, marked that Scientific Committee on the Effects of the Atomic Radiation proved to be competent and professional source of information on the radiation effect on human health and the environment. He noticed that Belarus experts took part in the UNSCEAR research project on the long-term radiation effect after the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant explosion and marked that Belarus is ready to share experience in the reconstruction of the affected areas.


Mr.Denis Zdorov welcomed the resolution of the 66th session of the UN General Assembly on including Belarus together with Spain, Republic of Korea, Pakistan, Ukraine and Finland into UNSCEAR as a full member.


Such increase in the membership will widen expert and financial resources necessary for the realization of current and future projects.


Mr.Denis Zdorov underlined that the Republic of Belarus is one of the co-authors of the draft resolution of the UN General Assembly 67th session “The Effect of Atomic Radiation” and is willing to take active part in UNSCEAR projects, including research projects on radiation effect on human health and the environment.
