On the Meetings of Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus Ms.Alena Kupchyna in Brussels

On January 29-30, 2014 Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Ms.Alena Kupchyna has paid a two-day working visit to Brussels, where she had a number of meetings at the European Commission, the European External Action Service and the European Parliament.


The main focus of the visit was the official launch of the negotiations between the Republic of Belarus and the European Commission on visa facilitation and readmission agreements. The modalities of the negotiations with a follow up round scheduled for March 2014 in Minsk were discussed at the meeting with Director General of the Directorate-General of the European Commission for Home Affairs Mr.Stefano Manservisi.


Ms.Alena Kupchyna also met with Mr.Štefan Füle, European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy, and Mr.Gunnar Wiegand, Director for Russia, the Eastern Partnership, Central Asia, regional cooperation and the OSCE of the European External Action Service, to discuss the prospects of the Belarusian-European dialogue as well as practical interaction between Belarus and the EU, including Belarus’ participation in the Eastern Partnership, and technical cooperation. The parties also agreed to start consultations on modernization issues to identify the best future form of cooperation between the Government of Belarus and the European Union in this sphere in line with the Final Declaration of the EaP Vilnius Summit.


The relations between Belarus and the European Parliament were in the focus of the meetings of Ms.Alena Kupchyna with Mr.Jasek Protasiewicz, Vice President of the European Parliament, and Mr.Filip Kaczmarek, head of the EaP Delegation for relations with Belarus.
