On July 2-27 the Substantive Session of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) takes place in the UN Headquarters in New York.

The Belarusian delegation led by the Aide to the President Valentin Rybakov takes part in the session as a full member.

The high-level meetings focused on the global jobs crisis and the search for ways to stimulate the creation of decent and sustainable employment, the need for a true global partnership to achieve the Millennium Development Goals.

The head of the Belarusian delegation voiced Belarusian principled approaches to international cooperation for resolving a complex of social and economic issues. In particular, he drew attention to Belarusian successes in resolving the employment issues, providing decent jobs and social security in the time of the economic crisis.

Belarusian delegate Valentin Rybakov emphasized that in the current economic situation there is no place for unilateral sanctions and other instruments of pressure on developing and middle-income countries. ECOSOC, in his view, should play a leading role in coordinating international efforts to secure integrated study of all the aspects of sustainable development – economic, social and environmental.
